8 great computer tricks everyone should know




People submitted a wealth of tricks for Macs, PCs, internet browsers, specific sites like YouTube, programs like excel, and more. What all of them had in common was that using them makes your laptop life an entire lot easier and additional fun.

We looked through the tricks and located the simplest, that are a combination of helpful and mischievous.


  • Get back that tab you mistakenly closed


If you wish to get back a tab you closed, simply press 'Control' (or 'Command' on Mac), and 'Shift,' plus 'T,' and it'll magically reappear.


  • Easily repeat your last command in excel


If you press the F4 button in excel, it repeats the last command.

'If you choose a cell and highlight it yellow, you'll then highlight the other selected cell(s) yellow by pressing F4.'


  • Open a link during a new browser tab with one click


If you click the 'middle' button on your mouse, you will open the link during a new browser tab. And if you middle-click an open tab, it'll close it.


  • Make a copy of a file by simply dragging it


All you have got to try and do to create a copy of a file on a mac is hold the 'Alt' key ('Control' if you're using a PC) and so click and drag the file. this will} create a copy that you just can drop anywhere you wish by un-clicking.


  • Pause YouTube with one click, or skip backward and forward ten seconds.


Most people know you'll hit the key to pause a YouTube video, however sometimes this causes it to scroll down the page if you haven't already clicked on the video. If you press 'K,' this can play (or pause) the video every time.

Hitting the 'J' key can cause you to travel backward ten seconds, whereas hitting the 'L' key can cause you to go ten seconds.


  • Move your window to any side of the screen, or to the next monitor.


If you click the 'Windows' key, and one of the arrows (right, left, up, down), your current window can move to it side of the screen.

Similarly, 'Windows,' and 'Shift,' and one of the arrows can move your window into whatever monitor is that way (right, for example).

Unfortunately, this only works for Windows machines.


  • Clear your cache in seconds


Quickly clear your cache by pressing 'Control,' and 'Shift,' plus 'R.' this can also refresh your page.


  • Reset your browser therefore it is not zoomed in


Here are 3 ways to deal with zooming in your internet browser:

'Control' (or 'Command' on Mac) and '0' resets it to default
'Control' (or 'Command' on Mac) and '+' zooms in
'Control' (or 'Command' on Mac) and '-' zooms out
